Quvenzhané Wallis to play title role in "Annie" movie

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Nine-year-old Oscar nominee Quvenzhané Wallis will play the title role in "Annie," Sony's Columbia Pictures announced on Sunday. "Annie" is due to hit theaters in 2014 during the winter holiday season, and is based on the stage play about an orphan's adventures in finding her family and a better life while overcoming the schemes of orphanage mistress Miss Hannigan. LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Popular vampire movie "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2" was savaged at the Razzie Awards on Saturday, earning seven "wins" in the annual contest for the worst movies and performances of the year. "Twilight" star Kristen Stewart, co-star Taylor Lautner and director Bill Condon were awarded Golden Raspberry statuettes for their parts in the final installment of the blockbuster film franchise. SANTA MONICA, California (Reuters) - Quirky comedy "Silver Linings Playbook" dominated the Independent Spirit Awards on the eve of Hollywood's Academy Awards ceremony, winning four prizes including for Best Feature. Jennifer Lawrence, 22, who plays a feisty young widow in "Silver Linings Playbook," was named best actress and David O. Russell picked up the best directing honor on Saturday.
